Kelly Pierce

I am a mixed-media artist (Painting, Collage, Printmaking) residing in Denver, CO. I received my BFA (Painting/Visual Communications) from the University of North Texas in 1992 and spent a year of self-study for Printmaking at the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA), Portland, OR in 2001. Since moving to Denver in 2002, I have shown in solo and group shows at many independent Denver galleries and art spaces.

I have also participated in several workshops with Master Printmaker Mark Lunning at Open Press, Denver. Additionally I am currently serving on the Board of the Invisible Museum, the originating entity for the bi-annual Mo’ Print Month of Printmaking art festival, in which I volunteer at several of the events over the month of activities.

I have continued to network in the Denver scene with other artists and DIY gallery spaces and have maintained a small, private studio during my entire 20 years in Denver. I am interested in the processes of creating subculture/pop images, and social/documentary images using low tech, primitive means, such as; distressed/alternative materials and tools, airbrush & spray paint, India wooden block prints, manipulated transfers and photocopies, rudimentary screen printing materials, vintage collage and found street detritus (from local and foreign sources).

The variety of conditions in the world today, and locally, informs my work. From the broader threat of global war, nuclear war, food instability, economic disruptions, and pandemics. To the local issues of economic disparity and the unhoused.

I also work full-time as a Graphic Designer in the Arvada/Denver area for a busy architectural/construction firm.
