ON EDGE is an annual juried exhibition of contemporary work by Colorado artists. EDGE Gallery has exhibited groundbreaking contemporary art for 30 years and has been instrumental in presenting important experimental work in our region. All artists residing in Colorado are invited to submit their work.

This show is open to contemporary art of any medium, with an emphasis on work that challenges the margins of material, content, artistic process, and technology. The merits and definition of “contemporary” will be defined by the juror.

This year, Dean Sobel will jury our 2016 show. As the Director of the Clyfford Still Museum, Mr. Sobel spearheaded the efforts to create a permanent home for the Clyfford Still Estate, encompassing approximately 3,000 works of art by Still that were bequeathed to the City of Denver in 2004. From 2000–2005, Sobel was Director of the Aspen Art Museum, a non-collecting kunsthalle. During his tenure, Sobel led the institution through its accreditation process and developed museum goals and programs for its 25th-anniversary, including an ambitious presentation of site-specific installations presented around Aspen. Prior to this appointment, from 1995–2000, Sobel was Chief Curator at the Milwaukee Art Museum, where he held the joint position of Curator of Contemporary Art.

Juror’s Choice Award $200

Mr. Sobel will select a piece or collection of artwork for its quality, content, and process. The Juror’s Choice Award will be announced at the Opening Reception.
