Sara-Lou Klein

Sara-Lou Klein has always been drawn to the small and the intimate. “My last name means small in German and I’ve always been attracted to tiny things,” she says, which is one reason her art is composed of alot of detail. Klein grew up in Golden, Colorado and received her BFA from Metro State (concentration in drawing.) The Denver Art Museum even has one of her tiny pieces in their collection–no larger than 2″x3″–included in an EDGE Gallery art box.

When a dear aunt was diagnosed with cancer, Sara-Lou found solace in images of owls as symbols of strength. Klein began volunteering at a rehabilitation hospital for birds of prey and thus a trademark was born. Her mostly whimsical birds have become a staple on the Denver art scene in the almost 35 years she has been creating here. Klein likes to draw or paint and play with mixed media either on wood panels, paper, or canvas.
