Where does the inner world end and the outer begin? Is there a dividing line?  I don’t believe so. These pieces begin as quick flashes, which come about at all times of day and night. An image arrives. . .if I am aware enough, I can recognize it and jot it down on whatever is available. . .a very simple sketch. Generally, the image comes while contemplating a concept I’m trying to understand – the image is the actual experience of trying to understand.  As the sketch develops on canvas, it changes of course, usually amending the meaning I thought it carried originally. The experience of watching these transform and come to some kind of conclusion is my reason for working with these mind images. Do they come from an inner world or an outer? Or both, or neither?
