Alane Holsteen lives and paints in downtown Denver Colorado, where she was born and raised.  By day she works with victims of violent crime.  At night you can find her digging in her small urban garden, or painting in her studio by the capitol.  Sometimes she expresses the beauty of this life; sometimes its pain.

She calls encaustic medium her artistic collaborator, because being of nature itself, it aids her in expressing the intricacies of life on this planet. By painting with encaustic, she is able to fuse layer upon layer of color, expressive marks, and full drawings, mimicking our lives, built day upon day. Sometimes a drawing or color might be completely obscured by a subsequent layer, yet, like life, it still exists, yielding the artwork its energy, its story to the final painting.
